Quite correctly Hand and Wrist injuries have their own specialism and subsequently their own specialist. We are fortunate to have a fantastic Hand Therapist in Liane Williams, with decades’ of experience in working in (and running) a world renowned specialist upper limb unit.Â
Hand and upper limb therapy is the non-surgical management of disorders and injuries involving the upper limb using physical methods including exercise and splinting. It is crucial in the recovery from injury and /or surgery and in the management of acquired pathologies eg Osteoarthritis.
Some common conditions seen are
- Trigger finger
- Tendinopathies
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Arthritis of the wrist, fingers or thumb joints
- Dupuytren’s disease
- Finger sprains commonly from sport
- Fractures involving the arm, wrist or fingers.
These may be treated conservatively or may require surgery and subsequent rehabilitation. We have excellent links to local hand and wrists surgeons.Â
